Amos was a prophet during the reign of Jeroboam ben Joash ( Jeroboam II ), ruler of Israel from 793 BC to 753 BC, and the reign of Uzziah, King of Judah, at a time when both kingdoms ( Israel in the North and Judah in the South ) were peaking in prosperity.

A minority argument for a date between AD 37 and AD 61 for the Gospel typically suggests that Luke's address to " Most Excellent Theophilus ," may be a reference to the Roman-imposed High Priest of Israel between AD 37 and AD 41, Theophilus ben Ananus.

From these circles of spiritual inspiration, the early Hasidic movement arose, led by Israel ben Eliezer, the Baal Shem Tov, in 18th century Podolia ( now Ukraine ).

( Some Jewish texts also refer to a " Messiah ben Joseph " or " Messiah ben Ephraim ", a military leader descended from the biblical Ephraim, who will successfully lead the army of Israel in many battles before being killed by Armilus, when Israel is defeated by Gog and Magog.

A Kabbalistic tradition within Judaism is that the commonly-discussed messiah who will usher in a period of freedom and peace ( Messiah ben David ) will be preceded by Messiah ben Joseph, who will die sacrificing himself while uniting all of Israel in preparing the world for the arrival of Messiah ben David.

Founded by Israel ben Eliezer, known as the Baal Shem Tov ( 1698 – 1760 ), it originated in an age of persecution of the Jewish people, when a schism existed between scholarly and common European Jews.

The Targum of the Prophets was composed by Jonathan ben Uzziel under the guidance of Haggai, Zechariah and Malachi ( Jonathan b.
