Paneloux's argument is based on the theology of St. Augustine, on which he is an expert, and it is accepted as irrefutable by many of the townspeople, including the magistrate, Othon.

In 1375 Pope Gregory XI gave them the Rule of St Augustine, with set of constitutions.

However, for at least a century, some scholars have maintained that the description of Grendel ’ s lake in Beowulf was borrowed from St. Paul ’ s vision of Hell in Homily 16 of the Blickling homilies.

On Palm Sunday, 1084, Henry IV solemnly enthroned Clement at St. Peter ’ s Basilica and on Easter Day, Clement returned the favor and crowned Henry IV as Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire.

The marriage, however, caused a stir within St. Thomas ’ small Jewish community, either because Rachel was outside the faith or because she was previously married to Frederick's uncle, and in subsequent years his four children were forced to attend the all-black primary school.

He was buried in Cortyna ( Gortyna ), Crete ; his head was later translated to Venice during the invasion of Crete by the Saracens in 832 and was enshrined in St. Mark ’ s, Venice, Italy.

In terms of values, Leeming contrasts " the myth of Jesus " with the myths of other " Christian heroes such as St. George, Roland, el Cid, and even King Arthur "; the latter hero myths, Leeming argues, reflect the survival of pre-Christian heroic values —" values of military dominance and cultural differentiation and hegemony "— more than the values expressed in the Christ story.
