Community of Christ, the former Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints ( RLDS ), is opposed to capital punishment.

Originally published in 1835 as Doctrine and Covenants of the Church of the Latter Day Saints: Carefully Selected from the Revelations of God, editions of the book continue to be printed mainly by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints ( LDS Church ) and the Community of Christ ( formerly the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints ( RLDS Church )).

Whereas the LDS Church believes these sections to have been revelations to Smith, the RLDS Church traditionally disputed their authenticity.

A modern revelation that resulted in some " disaffection " and " led to intense conflict in scattered areas of the RLDS Church " is contained in the Community of Christ version's Section 156, presented by Prophet-President Wallace B. Smith and added in 1984, which called for construction of the Independence Temple and the ordination of women to the priesthood, among other changes.

The Restoration Branches generally use the older RLDS Church Doctrine and Covenants, typically sections 1 – 144.

The Remnant Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints also uses the older RLDS Church version of the Doctrine and Covenants up to section 144, and also contains new revelations from their prophet – president Frederick Niels Larsen.

An evangelist – patriarch's primary responsibility was to provide special blessings to members of the church ; these blessings were considered one of the eight sacraments in the RLDS Church.

In 1984, when the first women began to be ordained to the office of evangelist – patriarch, the RLDS Church changed the title of the local Evangelist – Patriarchs to simply " evangelist ".

Community of Christ, known from 1872 to 2001 as the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints ( RLDS ), is an American-based international church established in April 1830 that claims as its mission " to proclaim Jesus Christ and promote communities of love, joy, peace, and hope ".

He also closely examined the Printer ’ s Manuscript ( owned by the Community of Christ — RLDS Church in Independence, Missouri ) for differences in types of ink or pencil, in order to determine when and by whom they were made.

William Smith, a younger brother of Joseph Smith, and a key figure in the early Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints ( RLDS Church, renamed Community of Christ in 2001 ) gave several accounts of the First Vision, although in 1883 he stated that a " more elaborate and accurate description of his vision " was to be found in Joseph Smith's own history

The vision was also interpreted as a justification for the exclusive authority of the RLDS Church as the Church of Christ.

In the mid-to late-20th century, writers within the RLDS Church emphasized the First Vision as an illustration of the centrality of Jesus.

There was less emphasis on the Great Apostasy and a growing belief that the First Vision itself was not necessarily identical with Joseph Smith's later reconstructions and interpretations of the vision, what one RLDS Church Historian has called " genuine historical sophistication.

" In 1980, this Church Historian noted that he had " systematically brought to the attention " of hundreds of church members " the substantive differences in half a dozen accounts of the First Vision " and expressed his satisfaction that RLDS scholars, " deeply moved and augmented by the presence of the wondrously diverse and conflicting accounts of the First Vision ," could " begin the exciting work of developing a mythology of Latter Day Saint beginnings.

The next day a New York Times headline read, " Mormon Document Raises Doubts on Succession of Church's Leaders ," and the LDS Church was forced to confirm the discovery and publicly present the document to the RLDS Church.

While Smith believed that he was entitled to become the presiding patriarch or a member of the Council of Twelve Apostles of the RLDS Church, his nephew did not agree and William Smith remained a high priest in the RLDS Church for the remainder of his life.

These were some of the most conservative members of the RLDS who believed that God communicated through regular revelations although some members admitted that they claimed to have revelations even when they did not.

Emma Hale Smith Bidamon ( July 10, 1804 – April 30, 1879 ) was married to Joseph Smith, Jr., until his death in 1844, and was an early leader of the Latter Day Saint movement, during Joseph Smith's lifetime and afterward as a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints ( RLDS, now the Community of Christ ).

This official position contradicted the testimony of earlier RLDS members who lived in Nauvoo during Joseph Smith's lifetime.

In contrast to numerous scholarly analyses of Joseph Smith's translations of the Book of Mormon and the Book of Abraham that began to appear in the 19th century, explorations of the textual foundations of the JST began in earnest only in the 1960s, with the pioneering work of the RLDS scholar Richard P. Howard and the LDS scholar Robert J. Matthews.

Early Latter Day Saints assumed that the Cumorah in New York was the same Cumorah described in the Book of Mormon, but in the early-20th century, scholars from the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints ( RLDS Church ) and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints ( LDS Church ) began to speculate that there were two such hills and that final battle in the Book of Mormon took place on a hill in southern Mexico, Central America, or South America.

Modern RLDS Restorationists ( such as the Restoration Branches ) contend that polygamy originated with Brigham Young and not Joseph Smith, Jr., which was the official RLDS stance in the late nineteenth century.

RLDS Doctrine & Covenants Section 81: 3b makes this statement about God being bound: " I, the Lord, am bound when ye do what I say, but when ye do not what I say, ye have no promise.

The Community of Christ, formerly known as the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints ( RLDS ), does not accept the Book of Abraham as canonical, although it was referenced in early church publications.

In the Community of Christ, formerly the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints ( RLDS ), the president of the church's formal title is the Prophet – President.

In 1866, Emma Smith gave the manuscripts into the custody of the CoC church ( then the RLDS ), of which she was a member, and her son Joseph Smith III the prophet-president.

The early Church did not agree.

The legislation of Henry VIII effectively establishing the independence from Rome of the Church of England, did not alter its constitutional or pastoral structures.

Erasmus lived through the Reformation period, but while he was critical of the Church, he did not join the cause of the Reformers.
