Although each series is set in a different era, all follow the " misfortunes " of Edmund Blackadder ( played by Atkinson ), who in each is a member of a British family dynasty present at many significant periods and places in British history.

Blackadder II is set in England during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I ( 1558 – 1603 ), played by Miranda Richardson.

It is set on the turn of the millennium, and features Lord Blackadder placing a bet with his friends – modern versions of Queenie ( Miranda Richardson ), Melchett ( Stephen Fry ), George ( Hugh Laurie ) and Darling ( Tim McInnerny ) – that he has built a working time machine.

He is unintentionally killed by Edmund, the titular " Blackadder " ( Rowan Atkinson ), when Edmund thinks he is trying to steal his horse.

The alternatives incursion began with The Young Ones ( 1982 – 84 ), written by Rik Mayall, Ben Elton and others, and continued with Blackadder ( 1983 – 89 ).

For example, in the British sitcom Blackadder Goes Forth, set in 1917 ( 27 years before the word was first used ), the character General Melchett declares that he likes the term and orders his batman to take note of it because he wants to " use it more often in conversation ".

The first episode of the BBC television comedy Blackadder in part parodies the Olivier film, visually ( as in the crown motif ), Peter Cook's performance as a benevolent Richard, and by mangling Shakespearean text (" Now is the summer of our sweet content made o ' ercast winter by these Tudor clouds ...")

* In the 1980s sitcom Blackadder the Third, the show's antihero, Mr. E. Blackadder ( Rowan Atkinson ), repeatedly mocks the affair between Nelson and Lady Hamilton.

Actors, Patsy Byrne ( Nursie in the sitcom Blackadder II ), Mark Rylance and Alex Arnold from Skins were born in the area, with other personalities from the town including satirist John Wells from That Was The Week That Was and Bob Holness, a television presenter.

He made his television debut in the late 1980s in various comedy shows including Blackadder Goes Forth ( 1989 ), and has presented a television documentary about the political background to the English Civil War as well as an edition of Top of the Pops in 1996.

Most, such as his repulsive manservant Baldrick and the various imbecilic aristocrats with whose company he is lumbered ( such as Lord Percy Percy or George ), are usually hindrances to him of whom he is repeatedly incapable of ridding himself.

Using this premise, the series follows the fictitious reign of Richard IV ( 1485 – 98 ) through the experiences of Prince Edmund, who styles himself as " The Black Adder ", and his two sidekicks: the imbecilic Lord Percy Percy, the Duke of Northumberland ( Tim McInnerny ); and Baldrick ( Tony Robinson ), a more intelligent servant of no status.

In the millennium special Blackadder: Back & Forth ( 1999 ), a time traveling Blackadder and Baldrick arrive in the Elizabethan Age and are confronted by Queenie ( Richardson ), Melchet, and Nursie.

His final recorded words, uttered while standing in the trench with Darling, George and Baldrick ( along with the infantry company he commanded ), were " Good luck, everyone.

These form thirteen established families ( plus perhaps Shompen, which is poorly attested, as a fourteenth ), which have traditionally been grouped into two, as Mon – Khmer and Munda.

Because anthropology developed from so many different enterprises ( see History of Anthropology ), including but not limited to fossil-hunting, exploring, documentary film-making, paleontology, primatology, antiquity dealings and curatorship, philology, etymology, genetics, regional analysis, ethnology, history, philosophy, and religious studies, it is difficult to characterize the entire field in a brief article, although attempts to write histories of the entire field have been made.

By making comparisons across cultural traditions ( time-based ) and cultural regions ( space-based ), anthropologists have developed various kinds of comparative method, a central part of their science.

In other countries ( and in some, particularly smaller, British and North American universities ), anthropologists have also found themselves institutionally linked with scholars of folklore, museum studies, human geography, sociology, social relations, ethnic studies, cultural studies, and social work.

A number of fossil cryptobranchids have been found but there are only three living species, the Chinese giant salamander ( Andrias davidianus ), the Japanese giant salamander ( Andrias japonicus ) and the hellbender ( Cryptobranchus alleganiensis ) from North America.
