The band was labeled a supergroup as it included former members of several veteran progressive rock bands, namely bassist / vocalist John Wetton ( formerly in Mogul Thrash, Family, King Crimson, Roxy Music, Uriah Heep, U. K. and Wishbone Ash ), guitarist Steve Howe ( formerly, and subsequently in Yes ), keyboardist Geoff Downes ( of Yes and The Buggles ) and drummer Carl Palmer ( formerly in The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, Atomic Rooster and Emerson, Lake & Palmer ).

After the break-up of King Crimson in 1974, various plans for a super group involving bassist John Wetton had been mooted, including the abortive British Bulldog project with Bill Bruford and Rick Wakeman in 1976.

In early 1981, Wetton and former Yes guitarist Steve Howe were brought together by A & R man John Kalodner and Geffen Records to start writing material for a new album.

Wetton and Palmer did, however, get together to form Qango, which included Kilminster and John Young, although the band was short-lived.

On 9 May 2006, John Payne, Geoff Downes, John Wetton, Carl Palmer and Steve Howe contractually agreed that John Payne could continue his 15 year period with Asia as Asia Featuring John Payne.

In the same year, Howe played as part of keyboardist / violinist Eddie Jobson's Ultimate Zero Project, in a line-up which included bassists Tony Levin and John Wetton, and drummers Marco Minnemann and Simon Phillips.

John Wetton ( ex-Family and King Crimson ) joined the band and with him Return to Fantasy was recorded ; representing a revitalized Uriah Heep, it soared up to No. 7 in the UK.

Soon bassist John Wetton announced he was quitting.

This made Belew the first guitarist to formally play alongside Fripp within King Crimson on an equal footing ( although both Ian McDonald and John Wetton had very occasionally contributed extra guitar to previous King Crimson recordings ).

Confirmed to be working on the album with Shatner are Zakk Wylde of Black Label Society, Peter Frampton, Brian May of Queen, Steve Howe from Yes, John Wetton from King Crimson and Asia, Ritchie Blackmore from Deep Purple, Alan Parsons, Bootsy Collins of Parliament-Funkadelic, country star Brad Paisley, and other famous popular musicians.

Over the years Geffen Records / DGC has become well known as a label, releasing works by the likes of Olivia Newton-John, Asia with Steve Howe and John Wetton, Elton John, Cher, Sonic Youth, Aerosmith, XTC, Peter Gabriel, Lone Justice, Blink-182, Guns N ' Roses, Nirvana, Lifehouse, Pat Metheny, Sloan, The Stone Roses and Neil Young.

Shortly afterwards, Bruford formed the progressive rock supergroup U. K. with keyboardist / violinist Eddie Jobson and bassist John Wetton.

Sinfield's debut album, Still, united numerous former ( Greg Lake, Mel Collins, Ian Wallace ) and future ( John Wetton ) Crimson alumni.

Both Horn and Downes have performed the song live in other acts, including Yes ( which Downes and Horn joined for the Drama album and tour in 1980 ), Downes in the 2006 – 2009 revival of Asia with John Wetton on lead vocals, and Horn in his band The Producers, also in 2006.

Other members included former King Crimson members Bill Bruford ( drums ) and John Wetton ( bass and lead vocals ) and Allan Holdsworth ( guitar ).
