* 1509 – Pope Julius II places the Italian state of Venice under interdict.

They were considered a Catholic innovation, not widely practiced until the 18th century, and were opposed vigorously in worship by a number of Protestant Reformers, including Martin Luther ( 1483 – 1546 ), John Calvin ( 1509 – 1564 ) and John Wesley ( 1703 – 1791 ).

Earlier, in 1509, the monk Pfefferkorn had obtained permission from Maximilian I ( 1486 – 1519 ), the Holy Roman Emperor, to incinerate all copies of the Talmud ( Jewish law and Jewish ethics ) known to be in the Holy Roman Empire ; the Letters of Obscure Men satirized the Dominican monks ' arguments for burning “ un-Christian ” works.

Śrī Kṛṣṇa Deva Rāya and also known as Krishna Deva Raya was the greatest Emperor of the Vijayanagara Empire who reigned from 1509 – 1529 CE.

In 1509, after the Venetian defeat at the Battle of Agnadello, Gritti was appointed as proveditor to the Venetian army in Treviso ; ordered by the Council of Ten to support revolts against the invaders, he successfully engineered the return of Padua to Venetian hands, and its subsequent defence against the Emperor.

His mother was Anne Skinner and his father, Henry Wyatt, had been one of Henry VII's Privy Councillors, and remained a trusted adviser when Henry VIII came to the throne in 1509.

When Henry VIII came to the throne in 1509, he married Catherine of Aragon himself.

Edward Plantagenet, 17th Earl of Warwick ( 25 February 1475 – 28 November 1499 ) was the son of George Plantagenet, 1st Duke of Clarence, and a potential claimant to the English throne during the reigns of both Richard III ( 1483 – 1485 ) and his successor, Henry VII ( 1485 – 1509 ).

Henry became heir upon Arthur's death and would come to the throne in 1509.

Kingsley Amis wrote " The Alteration " ( 1976 ), an alternative history novel about the effects of a contested " War of the English Succession " ( c 1509 ), where the birth and reign of Prince Arthur Tudor and Katherine of Aragon's son, " Stephen II ", leads Henry VIII to attempt to usurp his nephew's throne.

In 1509 the heir to the throne of Cleves-Mark John III the Peaceful married Maria, the daughter of Duke William IV of Berg and Jülich.

Henry Tudor, who reigned as King Henry VII between 1485 and 1509, had a rather tenuous claim on the throne, being the Lancastrian claimant via an illegitimate descendant of Edward III when all the more senior candidates had been killed off in the Wars of the Roses.

From Henry VIII's coming to the throne of England in 1509, Cheyne served as Lord Warden, spanning the reigns of all five of the Tudor monarchs.

After the death of Arthur, her first husband and Henry's brother, a papal dispensation was obtained to enable her to marry Henry, though the marriage did not take place until after he came to the throne in 1509.
