* Expositio evangelii secundum Lucam ( Commentary on the Gospel according to Luke )

It is said to be that the author of the Gospel of Luke is the same as the author of the Acts of the Apostles.

The question regarding the genre of Acts is complicated by the fact that it was written by the same author as the Gospel of Luke.

Evidence for this is found in the prologue to the Gospel of Luke, wherein the author alludes to his sources by writing, " Many have undertaken to draw up an account of the things that have been fulfilled among us, just as they were handed down to us by those who from the first were eyewitnesses and servants of the word.

“ Acts, then is a continuation of the Lucan Gospel, not in the sense that it relates what Jesus continued to do, but how his followers carried out his commission under the guidance of his Spirit .” Thus, part of the answer to the purpose of Acts is that Luke is writing to Theophilus, who is also mentioned in Luke 1: 3, in order to explain to him the occurrences that take place in the church that fulfill Jesus ’ promise to his disciples that “ you will be baptized with, the Holy Spirit not many days from now ” ( Acts 1: 5 ).

The author opens with a prologue, usually taken to be addressed to an individual by the name of Theophilus ( though this name, which translates literally as " God-lover ", may be a nickname rather than a personal appellation ) and references " my earlier book "— almost certainly the Gospel of Luke.

As in the Gospel of Luke, there are numerous references to the Holy Spirit throughout Acts.

The Gospel of Luke and Acts both devote a great deal of attention to the oppressed and downtrodden.

Prayer is a major motif in both the Gospel of Luke and Acts.

The Gospel of Luke depicts prayer as a certain feature in Jesus's life.

Clement of Alexandria ( Stromata, ii, 20 ) also makes Barnabas one of the Seventy Disciples that are mentioned in the Gospel of Luke 10: 1ff.

Among the teachings of Jesus Christ in the Gospel of Luke and the Gospel of Matthew, the message to his followers that one should " Turn the other cheek " and his example in the story Pericope Adulterae, in which Jesus intervenes in the stoning of an adulteress, are generally accepted as his condemnation of physical retaliation ( though most scholars agree that the latter passage was " certainly not part of the original text of St John's Gospel ") More militant Christians consider Romans 13: 3 – 4 to support the death penalty.

This verse in the Olivet Discourse also occurs in the Gospel of Luke.

According to the Gospel of Luke, Nazareth was the home village of Mary and also the site of the Annunciation ( when Mary was told by the Angel Gabriel that she would have Jesus as her son ).

In the Gospel of Luke, Gabriel appears to the virgin Mary and to Zechariah, foretelling the births of Jesus and John the Baptist, respectively ( Luke 1: 11 – 38 ).

The first of the two passages from Saint Luke's Gospel is the greeting of the Angel Gabriel to Mary, originally written in Koine Greek.

In the Gospel of Luke, Mary learns from the angel Gabriel that she will conceive and bear a child called Jesus.

Opposite the present site of the episcopal city, Robert de La Salle and Henri de Tonti in 1680 built Fort Crèvecoeur, in which Mass was celebrated and the Gospel preached by the Recollect Fathers, Gabriel Ribourdi, Zenobius Membre, and Louis Hennepin.

Now, if any part of the Bible is assuredly the very Word of God speaking through His servant, it is John's Gospel.

This belief is grounded in the Gospel of John passage “ You heard me say, ‘ I am going away and I am coming back to you .’ If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.

On the other hand, they may not preside over Adoration or Benediction, give a speech that is a homily, or read the Gospel during a Mass or serve as instituted acolytes, a ministry which is now reserved for those preparing for ordained service ).

* Man has free will to respond or resist: Free will is limited by God's sovereignty, but God's sovereignty allows all men the choice to accept the Gospel of Jesus through faith, simultaneously allowing all men to resist.

After the last anointing, the Gospel Book is opened and placed with the writing down upon the head of the one who was anointed, and the senior priest reads the " Prayer of the Gospel ".

Article 25 of the Thirty-Nine Articles, speaking of the sacraments, says: " Those five commonly called Sacraments, that is to say, Confirmation, Penance, Orders, Matrimony, and extreme Unction, are not to be counted for Sacraments of the Gospel, being such as have grown partly of the corrupt following of the Apostles, partly are states of life allowed in the Scriptures ; but yet have not like nature of Sacraments with Baptism, and the Lord's Supper, for that they have not any visible sign or ceremony ordained of God.

Due to recorded predictions of the destruction of the temple, the Gospel of Mark is believed by many critical scholars to have been composed around or shortly after the fall of Jerusalem due to prophecies assumed to be ex post facto regarding the destruction of the temple, and both traditional and critical scholarly consensus maintains that it was the first written of the four canonical gospels.

In the Gospel of John and in Revelation, Jesus is referred to as " the Word of God " (), although the context in Revelation is very different from John.

In the Gospel of John, Jesus referred to himself as the Son of God far more frequently than in the Synoptic Gospels.

Jesus ' ministry, sacrificial death, and subsequent resurrection, are often referred to as the Gospel message (" good news ").

This is referred to as " being born of water and the Spirit ", following the terminology in the Gospel of St. John.

The often referred to Interpreter ’ s Dictionary of the Bible, a book written to prove the validity of the New Testament, says: ” A study of 150 Greek of the Gospel of Luke has revealed more than 30, 000 different readings ...

In his Comment on the Gospel of Matthew, which stems from a 6th century Latin translation, it is written: " In this place Jesus said Elijah was come and referred to John the Baptist it does not appear to me that by Elijah the soul is spoken of, lest I fall into the doctrine of transmigration, which is foreign to the Church of God, and not handed down by the apostles, nor anywhere set forth in the scriptures " ( ibid., 13: 1: 46 – 53 ).

The Second Epistle of John, often referred to as Second John and often written 2 John, is a book of the New Testament attributed to John the Evangelist, traditionally thought to be the author of the Gospel of John and the other two epistles of John.

The Third Epistle of John, often referred to as Third John and written 3 John, is a book of the New Testament attributed to John the Evangelist, traditionally thought to be the author of the Gospel of John and the other two epistles of John.

This day has one sole Pre-Lenten feature: the Gospel reading is always the account of Zacchaeus from, for which reason this Sunday is referred to as " Zacchaeus Sunday " ( though the week before is not called " Zacchaeus week ").

In St John's Gospel the miracles are referred to as " signs " and the emphasis is on God demonstrating his underlying normal activity in remarkable ways.
